Students' nutrition knowledge increases 125%
The culminating event to Operation Tone-Up is the Fittest School Challenge. Each participating school will be allowed to send a team of 8 students to represent their school at the Challenge.
The students are chosen by their teachers. All teams attending the Challenge will compete in two-events and will be graded as a team. The two events are:
The Exercise Challenge and the Know Your Nutrients Challenge.
20 minute non-stop aerobic workout. Judges will independently grade the students as a team in the following areas:
Students should be able to execute exercises using proper form.
The students’ endurance should remain the same throughout the Exercise Challenge to receive a high score. Students that show a lot of energy in the first couple of sets, then little to no energy in the last couple of sets, will lose points.
Should be smooth, with little to no rest between exercises
Note: 2 Bonus Points will be given to teams that have a teacher and/or administrator that can complete the entire Exercise Challenge with them. (Max. 2 points)
Teams compete against each other to answer questions based on the weekly Nutrition & Exercise lessons they have studied over the last 10 weeks.
Note: Questions can come from anywhere on Knowledge Island. BUT, most of the questions will come from the “Basics” at Nutrient Lagoon and Workout Point
Each team is allowed ONE Team Chat to talk amongst themselves to answer a question. The team member must raise his/her hand BEFORE the specified time runs out in order to be granted the Team Chat. The team is then given a specified time to quietly discuss and come up with the answer to the question.
Each team has ONE opportunity to Flex Their Muscle to earn double the point value! To activate, the team member needs to express that they want to Flex Their Muscle before the question is asked.
NOTE: If the student answers the question correctly they receive double the point value. BUT, if they miss the question, they LOSE 5 points.
Have your team and alternates perform the Assignment 4 Exercise Plan (20 Minute Workout) at least 3-days each week and have them focus on the following 3 areas:
Next have the team play the Catch A Wave game as often as possible in either single-player or 2-player mode (this can be done in the classroom with the entire classroom) to become familiar with the questions and answers. Many of the questions used during the Nutrition Challenge will come from the Catch A Wave game.
