Our nutrition and exercise programs sustainability comes from two resources: 1) Test Scores and 2) Attendance. Since most of the schools we work with are Title 1, they are able to receive more Title 1 funding if they can show improvement in Academic Performance. On average our nutrition and exercise program, “Operation Tone-Up” improves test scores by 18%, which is considered excellent and worthy of additional Title 1 funding. Our program’s ability to improve health to increase student attendance is well documented. The average increase in attendance is 8% (3.2 days) during the length of the program. The increase in attendance alone can sustain the program indefinitely. Not to mention the health care cost savings to the community.
Our nutrition and exercise programs provide long-term scientific data that demonstrates achievement of consistent positive results in improving health to prevent childhood obesity. Studies (consisting of pre and post-test measures) after 10 weeks of instruction on over 12,000 children, over a ten-year period, indicate that the program is effective in the prevention of child obesity. To demonstrate the physiological changes achieved over the initial 10-week program as well as the change in nutrition knowledge.
We pre and post-tested the students in 3 areas:
Upon completion of the program, an independent evaluator analyzes the data and prepares a report. The analysis determines whether there is a statistically significant difference between the students’ pre-score mean and post-score mean, using paired-samples t-tests.
Project success results from sufficient evidence that the average score in each tested category improved as a result of Operation Tone-Up (OTU). Minimum expected results are equivalent to 0.05 (95%) significant level of confidence. The results from the studies showed major improvements in students' nutritional knowledge, (range of +84% to +153%) strength and endurance, (+67% to +153%) blood pressure (-6% to -9%) and resting heart rate (-11%). The difference between the two-paired means is typically significant at the 0.001 (99.8%) level of confidence.
